In case you haven’t guessed, the blog name was inspired by the wonderful folks at Nationwide Sun Awnings. They run a marvellous ad (daytime only, of course) in which they - via the medium of ex Police Chief John Stalker and his loyal pooch Drummer - illustrate the problem of how relentless the sun’s glare can be in the UK - as anyone living here will no doubt testify. The solution to this problem is to buy one of their “beautiful” awnings, which, in case any watching technophobes begin to fret, is so simple to use, even Drummer can do it - cue dogs paw slapping remote control, and the beautiful awning lowering so precisely even Brunel would be proud.
The majesty of these adverts are second only to Christopher Timothy’s nostalgic longings for the past/gentle reminders “your number’s nearly up, granny” on behalf of some life insurance company.
